In over enthusiasm to practice her new found ability of taking a double turn on the bed; trying a trick newly learnt, using an unattended moment from her ever so watchful Ma, Nonu had her first fall from the bed. While our hearts were in our respective mouths and we did what we could under the circumstances in our adult wisdom, I shouted, her mother sobbed, while the small bundle which precipitated the catastrophe was back to her usual toothless grin and playful charms in not more than a minute of being held in the comfort of her mother's arms. A big truth gapes at me, how idiotic we adults respond to crisis, shouting like crazy, and crying like a wimp, and the child responds with a resilience and a will to move on without blaming anyone. I know, no matter how much I try, I will not always be there to protect her, all I can do is pray that this mature way of handling crisis like a child will stay with her through all her life.
